The RSPCA has a lot of Guineas desperately needing homes, as do the Cambridge Cavy Trust who have lists of Guinea Pig rescue centres all over the UK. :
Cambridge Cavy Trust
Leewood Business Park
Upton
Huntingdon

Please DO NOT FORGET THE RESCUE CENTRES !!! There are always Guineas needing help - and rabbbits - and there are always more waiting to take the place of the ones that have just been rehomed.

Here is a rescue centre in Cumbria, who if they don't have guineas, may be able to point you to
another rescue.

I just traded a guinea pig that runs away and squeals and trys to run away when you try to pick her up, for one that will let you pick her up and won't squeal. the guinea pig was my friend's, she loved her, and the other one she gave away, we couldn't keep both of ours, and her son was alergic to the pigs, so i traded them. i also have a nine week year old lop-eared rabbit. i had another one at two months, but she got sick and died. i want to know if i can put the rabbit and the guinea pig together.
Next message Sophie posted on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 4:21 pm
I got 2 lops in september but unfortunatly one died. i need a friend for my rabbit soon. i live in london so need it to be local.
also my rabbit is fine when i pick him/her (unsure of the sex yet) up but when i begin to walk buster tries to jump out of my arms. i have tried carrying him/her in various positions but always manage to get scratched and have to run to the hutch before i drop him/her. why does buster do this? when i sit down with him/her he/she digs on my clothes and bites me but it doesnt seem to be in a violent way. why does buster do this and how can i stop it?

Sarah Jane, I have a lop earrred female rabbit. When she was two years old we purchased a baby male guinia pig. They quickly became best of friends and have roomed together for two years. When the bunny is taken out of the guinia pigs sight, he squeals until he is with her again.

If you know little of what your pet entails...

STOP BUYING AND BREEDING THE POOR FUCKING CREATURES.

Fucking hell, how can you be so dim as to inbreed, poorly socialise and generally not have a clue about guinea pigs? Take note people, GUINEA pigs. Not "ginny", "guinia" "guniea" or any other bastard mutation. Spellcheck is there for a reason. In fact if you can't spell the species, you shouldn't be allowed near it.

Oh, I weep for humanity. Those of you that advocate rescue, I thank you.

They are a wide mixture of colours and breeds including abyssinian, short haired and torties. I also have boars needing homes. All homes will be vetted and a charge of £10 per pig to help cover vet bills. Please can you find it in your heart to give one of these animals a forever home.

I Have three Beautiful Male Guinea pigs. 3yrs old. My sons asthma and eczema is being badly affected now due to his contact with them. Because of this my piggies are now in desperate need of a loving new home. I live in Cumbernauld near Glasgow. Is there anyone out there who would love them as much as we have?
Please get in touch if you can offer them a good home. they are very gentle natured and used to being handled. One is neutered. Short haired brown coat. The other two are brothers, American crested. One black and white with long coat and one gold and white.

Please do not put any guinea pigs with rabbits. The guinea pig could get trodden on or kicked by the rabbit with serious injuries incurred. A rabbit will also try to mate with a guinea pig regardless of whether it is male or female. Also, guinea pigs are prone to bite rabbits, which could result in them getting abscesses.

Please be kind and give them separate homes (* piggies prefer to be housed with another piggie as they are sociable creatures*)

Just a word of advice to all you people on this board who are looking for guinea pigs....visit your local rescue centre and give a home to an unwanted piggie rather than buying from a breeder.

And also, DO NOT house rabbits & guinea pigs together.
Next message Liz (62.6.139.9) posted on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 - 3:20 pm
Oh my god. The majority of you people shouldn't be allowed to keep animals! On this board I have read about someone who gave their guinea pig away because it ran away from them, people allowing their animals to inbreed, people keeping rabbits & guinea pigs together...the list goes on.

Thank you to people who have given advice about NOT breeding, NOT keeping rabbits & guineas together & ADOPTING animals from rescues.

NEVER PUT UR GUINEA PIG WITH A RABBIT UNLESS IT HAS BEEN WITH IT SINCE IT WAS A BABY. RABBITS WILL BULLY GUINEA PIGS AND THEN KILL THEM.

Hi

Looking for a friend for my 6month female guinea pig, pref looking for a female around the same age. Pigs will be kept indoors in a spacious plastic tank (i dont like the cages too restricting and cruel)

Happy to rehome, I live in the Ickenham, Uxbridge
Loving home awaits! Please email bluespiral198@hotmail.com
Next message FAO Jessamine (82.44.184.50) posted on Monday, January 09, 2006 - 6:21 pm
Jessamine, from what i have learnt there are many signs of lonliness and general unhappiness within guinea pigs.

Pigs facing the wall, or being hunched in the corner. Chewing or rattling the cage bars in boredom. Not eating. Calling out for mothers (often in babies).

But bearing this in mind my pig took a good month to settle in, and now lies legs sprawled all over the place.

Signs of happy pigs, pop corning, mumbling to themselves (mine chats to herself all the time heh), running , leaping, wheeking.

Often Pregnant female will not like to be touched along the sides of their belly, so that is a clear sign.
Next message Jessamine (208.31.36.1) posted on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 6:54 pm
We found out that my guinea pig is a boy, so we can dismiss pregnancy.

He has been here for about a month now. He almost hever squeaks, but he does make a bird-chirping noise and a purring sound. He has scars and scabs too.

Is anything wrong??

Should I take him to the vet???

:( Jessamine :(

omg a lot of peeps have replied! can i just say that this topic was meant to be about people that wanted to rehome their guineapig ! and i can now take any guineapigs that need new homes but they must be delivered to me !! a lot of people on here want guineapigs but dont have a clue !! RABBITS AND GUINEAPIGS CAN NOT BE KEPT TOGETHER! not just will the rabbit sometimes bully the piggy, pigs need extra vitimin c where as rabbits can make there own and get easily overdosed on it, you cant feed rabbit guineapig food and you cant feed guineapigs rabbit food ! a rabbit will use a guineapig as a toilet !! i could go on all day, but if u are a nice responsible person u will not under any cercumstances keep rabbits and cavies together !! If u have any questions or want me to take on your guineapig/s PLEASE E-MAIL ME: Annie2003claire@aol.com.

Hi Kim have been reading your messages about looking for anothr piggi. I live in manchester and have 2 guinea girls called Chloe & Chanel. They are well loved Guinea's and live in their home in the house with everything they need. They are handled constantly, have never bitten and are nearly 2yrs old. Originally bought for my daughter but now looked after by mum & dad !!
We have not yet decided whether we will let them be rehomed but are thinking about it. Where does your Guinea pig live?

Hi claire. I have just adopted a little guinea pig from a lady in stockport who runs a centre and unfortunatly my boyfriend has put his foot down about having more pets getting most of my attention. I have 2 bunnies, 4 gerbils and now 2 piggis. I think he's jealous that they get spoilt and more cuddles than him! My guinea pigs have their own room in the house and go outside in their run when its warm. I hope you find your guineas a lovely home if you do decided to rehome them.

GUINEA PIG NEEDED IN CUMBRIA (around carlisle) I dont want to get one from a petshop but may have to soon as i am lonely without mine. She was a female and i would prefer another female. Am happy to rehome two together or whatever ... I do not even mind if she is not that young as long as she is friendly. This is a genuine and loving home with one careful older child who would help me look after her.

OK, to all you people looking for guinea pigs, please DO NOT buy form pet shops! they treat them wrong!
a lot of people do not realise there are many guinea pigs needing homes in the rescue centres!! please go and check them.
If not, there are reputable breeders who look after them well and they certainly dont cost half the price of pet shop piggies!!
for reputable registered breeders (myself included) go to www.cavybreeder.co.uk

But PLEASE rescues always have lonely piggies, go there first!!!!

It is a possibility but I do not want to put them through the trauma of a long journey in the car, and there are few rescues near to here and at present there are no suitable candidates.
